A 26-year-old woman is in police custody after she was arrested while attempting to smuggle cocaine out of the country through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Wendy Mbeke Muli was apprehended on Friday shortly after boarding an outbound flight. Her suspicious behavior during a routine security screening raised alarm among airport authorities.
“It was soon established that she had concealed foreign substances inside her body cavity, prompting immediate medical observation,” the DCI wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Under close monitoring, Muli later requested to use the washrooms, where she excreted two pellets. By Saturday, she had excreted six more pellets, all of which were collected by anti-narcotics officers stationed at JKIA.
The recovered pellets were later confirmed to contain cocaine weighing approximately 626.65 grams.
The JKIA Anti-Narcotics Unit is currently finalizing preparations to arraign Muli in court on Monday, June 16, where she is expected to face charges related to drug trafficking.
