The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has intensified its disciplinary actions against members accused of associating with the newly formed Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), which is allegedly linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Just weeks after initiating the removal of nominated senator Gloria Orwoba, the UDA Disciplinary Committee has summoned two nominated Members of County Assembly (MCAs) over similar allegations. The MCAs, Ann Thumbi from Nyeri County and Joy Muthoni Mwangi from Nairobi County, are accused of engaging in activities aligned with the DCP, in what the party views as insubordination.
In a letter dated Friday, June 6, 2025, the committee’s chairperson, Charles Njenga, expressed concern over their conduct. The disciplinary body claims that the two leaders have been actively participating in the political activities of Gachagua’s party, which is contrary to both the UDA constitution and the Political Parties Act, 2011.
According to the committee, Thumbi and Muthoni were present at a DCP rally held on May 15, where they wore branded merchandise associated with the party and publicly endorsed it, urging residents to join the new political outfit. Thumbi is also said to have participated in another DCP rally on May 24.
The disciplinary actions signal a growing rift within the ruling party as political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections begin to take shape.
