An Ethiopian national tragically died after being electrocuted while working at a quarry in Bute, Wajir County, on Thursday, July 4.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the victim, identified as Borbor Halake, aged 45, was operating in Dugo Location when the incident occurred. Halake reportedly came into contact with a live electric wire that was connected from a generator to a stone drilling machine.
“He touched a live wire and was electrocuted instantly,” said a witness at the scene.
The generator was reportedly supplying power to a stone driller being used at the site. Unfortunately, Halake died on the spot due to the electric shock. His body was later moved to a local mortuary pending further investigation and a postmortem.
Local authorities, including officers from Wajir Police Station, have since launched an inquiry to determine if there was any negligence or breach of safety protocols at the quarry site.
