Nairobi, July 18, 2025 — The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of Kennedy Kalombotole, the prime suspect in the murders of two patients at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). He was apprehended following the brutal killing of Edward Maingi Ndegwa on July 17, 2025.
New Murder Confirmed at KNH
According to the DCI, Ndegwa was admitted to Ward 7B (Group C, Male) on July 11 and was found dead on Thursday afternoon.
“Kalombotole’s arrest follows the brutal murder of Edward Maingi Ndegwa on July 17, 2025,” announced DCI officials in an update on their official site.
Chilling Details from the Crime Scene
A cleaner discovered blood oozing from Ndegwa’s neck during routine checks. Investigators identified blood trails leading from the victim’s bedside to a nearby toilet and then to Kalombotole’s side room, where they found blood-stained slippers and bedding.
A knife, presumed to be the murder weapon, wrapped in gloves, was retrieved and sent to the National Forensic Laboratory for analysis.
Suspected in Previous Homicide
Kalombotole is also the prime suspect in the February homicide of Gilbert Kinyua Muthoni in Ward 7C at KNH. At that time, the case was passed to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which requested further investigations to reinforce the prosecution’s evidence.
