Dramatic Arrest Turns Violent in Homa Bay
A police officer sustained a serious bite wound on July 20 during a dramatic arrest of a wanted suspect in Kendu Bay, Homa Bay County. The incident unfolded after residents alerted the police that a man with pending arrest warrants had been spotted in the area.
According to police sources, the suspect, identified as Peter Otieno, also known as Jakotieno, had previously skipped several court appearances. Concerned locals detained him and tied him with a sisal rope while waiting for law enforcement to arrive.
“The locals were aware of the suspect’s history and detained him after recognizing him,” said a police spokesperson from the Homa Bay County Command.
Suspect Attacks Officer During Arrest
When three police officers arrived at the scene — approximately one kilometer from the Kendu Bay police station — they found the suspect subdued. However, as officers attempted to escort Otieno to the station, he became violent and bit one officer’s left middle finger, causing a deep wound.
The injured officer was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and was later discharged. His colleagues were able to restrain the suspect, who was then taken into custody.
Suspect in Custody, Investigations Ongoing
The suspect is currently being held at Kendu Bay Police Station and is expected to face additional charges, including assaulting a police officer, on top of his previous warrants.
