Nairobi, Kenya – August 8, 2025 : The Social Health Authority (SHA) has officially suspended multiple health facilities across Kenya following allegations of fraudulent activities involving public health insurance benefits.
In a gazette notice issued by SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mercy Mwangangi on Friday, August 8, the authority declared that the affected hospitals will no longer access benefits under the Social Health Insurance Act, 2023.
“In accordance with section 48 (6) of the Social Health Insurance Act, the facilities listed are suspended and shall not enjoy any SHA benefits during this period,” the statement noted.
This crackdown comes amid ongoing efforts by government agencies to streamline healthcare service delivery and eliminate systemic fraud within the new SHA framework.
