Kasarani Pastor Defends Relationship With 22-Year-Old University Student

Kasarani-based preacher Pastor Grace Mwende of Mountain of Hope Chapel has publicly defended her relationship with a 22-year-old University of Nairobi law student, dismissing allegations that she manipulated him into abandoning his studies.

The controversy erupted after the young man’s mother went public, accusing the 43-year-old pastor of luring her son into a romantic affair that resulted in him quitting his law degree.

Mother Accuses Pastor of Influencing Son’s Decision

According to the mother, her son moved in with Pastor Mwende, abandoning his education and distancing himself from his family. She expressed deep concern over his future, claiming that repeated pleas for him to return to school have been ignored.

“She has taken my son away from his education. I only want him to finish school before making life-altering decisions,” the mother told reporters.

Her attempts to intervene have reportedly been met with resistance, with her son allegedly warning her to stay out of his private life.

Pastor Mwende Says Love Is Mutual

Pastor Grace Mwende dismissed the manipulation claims, saying their romance is built on “mutual love and respect.”

She alleged that the student was the one who initially pursued her:

“I have finally fallen deeply in love with him, and things are going well for us,” Mwende stated.

The preacher added that she sees nothing wrong with their relationship despite the 21-year age gap.

Public Debate Over Morality and Age Gap

The affair has sparked heated discussions online, with many Kenyans divided over whether the relationship is morally acceptable. Critics have accused the pastor of exploiting her position of influence, while supporters argue that both parties are consenting adults.

Kenyan law does not prohibit relationships between adults, regardless of age difference, provided both parties consent. However, the court of public opinion has been far less forgiving, especially when the romance involves a religious leader.

This is not the first time a relationship between a religious leader and a younger partner has made headlines in Kenya.
