Former Harambee Stars midfielder and current Football Kenya Federation (FKF) vice president, McDonald Mariga, has hit out at musician Bahati over what he termed as “empty promises” regarding a Ksh1 million pledge to the national football team.
Mariga revealed that Bahati had personally called him earlier, insisting he wanted to support Harambee Stars with the donation. However, according to Mariga, the promise turned into a cycle of excuses, delays, and unanswered calls.
“Huyo jamaa alinipigia mara ya kwanza akasema atapatiana one million. But amekua akinizungusha nikimpigia hashiki, mara sijui yuko wapi, yuko Naivasha. Yaani hata vitu zake haziko clear,” Mariga said during a call with Silva Kido that has since gone viral on social media.
The ex-international midfielder further dismissed Bahati’s pledge as insincere, accusing him of chasing social media clout rather than genuinely supporting the team.
“Unajua mimi si mtu wa kufatana na mtu na sipendi waongo. Unajua hizo vitu zao za kujionyesha kwa mtandao, sifanyangi hizo. Hizo vitu zote anasema ni uwongo, awache kuharibia watu jina. Awache kujipush na jina za watu kwa sababu hiyo ni tabia yake,” he explained.
Mariga concluded by challenging Bahati to honor his word:
“Mimi namgoja alete hizo pesa aongee kama mwanaume.”
