Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of being the mastermind behind corruption and bribery in Parliament.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV’s The Explainer show, Gachagua claimed that the President has been paying Members of Parliament (MPs) and Senators to push through his political and legislative agenda.
“The President has no moral authority to talk about corruption in Parliament because he is the one who has corrupted it. Ruto pays Parliament for everything he wants to happen,” Gachagua alleged.
Alleged Bribery Figures
According to Gachagua, lawmakers were bribed with different amounts depending on the issue at hand:
- Ksh 200,000 each – MPs allegedly received this amount to support the controversial 2024 Finance Bill.
- Ksh 500,000 each – MPs who voted in favor of his impeachment allegedly pocketed this sum.
- Up to Ksh 10 million – Senators were purportedly offered this amount to endorse his removal from office.
‘State House is a Crime Scene’
The former DP described State House as a “crime scene,” insisting that the country’s top leadership is openly perpetuating corruption.
Gachagua, who recently declared that he will vie for the 2027 presidency, has positioned himself as a leading opposition figure. His explosive claims are likely to further strain relations between him and President Ruto.
