A Nairobi man accused of defrauding a job seeker in a police recruitment scam is expected to appear for a pre-trial conference on 16th December 2025, court records show.
The suspect, Christian Masengeli, also known as Timothy Khatepe Barsa, has been charged with obtaining money by false pretences.
According to the prosecution, Masengei allegedly swindled a job seeker of KSh 2,589,000 between 18th August 2023 and 23rd November 2023, claiming he had the influence and connections to secure employment for the complainant in the National Police Service.
Investigators say the complainant paid the money in several instalments, believing the promise of a guaranteed recruitment slot.
Masengei’s lawyer requested reasonable bail and bond terms during his court appearance, after which the magistrate granted:
- Bond: KSh 1 million with one surety of a similar amount
- Alternative cash bail: KSh 500,000, on condition that he provides a reliable contact person who must remain reachable throughout the duration of the case
The matter will return to court on 16th December 2025 for a pre-trial session aimed at confirming whether all parties have exchanged evidence and complied with mandatory procedural requirements.
