Police officers in Meru have arrested a man suspected of impersonating police officers and terrorising residents of Imenti North Sub-County.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, identified as Lucky Mwenda, was apprehended following a tip-off from members of the public who had grown wary of his activities.
Detectives raided Mwenda’s premises, where they recovered several items believed to have been used to intimidate unsuspecting civilians. The items include a military jacket, military knee pad, military hat, camel bag, and a dagger.
Authorities say the suspect had been masquerading as a law enforcement officer, instilling fear among locals and exploiting the disguise to harass members of the public.
Mwenda has been taken into police custody and will remain detained as investigations continue. He is expected to be arraigned in court once processing is complete.
The DCI has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report anyone suspected of impersonating security officers, warning that such offences pose serious risks to public safety.
