Police in Murang’a County are holding a man suspected of brutally killing his estranged wife in a shocking domestic violence incident in Kabati area.
The victim, identified as Pauline Warugu, 35, succumbed to severe head injuries while undergoing treatment at Murang’a General Hospital following the attack that occurred on December 16 in Riandegwa area.
According to police, Warugu was in the company of her mother and heading to their farm when the suspect, who had allegedly trailed her, struck her on the head before fleeing the scene.
She was initially rushed to Kenol Hospital, where she received first aid, before being referred to Murang’a General Hospital due to the severity of her injuries. She later died while receiving treatment.
Residents later tracked down the suspect, beat him up, and handed him over to the police. He is currently in custody and is expected to be arraigned on murder charges.
Police revealed that the deceased had previously fled her matrimonial home following repeated claims of domestic violence, raising renewed concerns over gender-based violence in the country.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
