More than 100,000 parents and learners have applied for a review of Grade 10 placements on the very first day of the seven-day revision window, according to Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok.
Speaking during a senior school assessment selection exercise at Naivasha Boys’ Boarding School, PS Bitok said the overwhelming response reflects heightened interest and concern following the release of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results.
Ministry Approves Over 2,000 Requests on Day One
As of 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the Ministry of Education had already processed and approved more than 2,000 placement revision requests, with thousands more still under review.
“So far, we have received over 100,000 requests for revising pathways, and as of 4 pm today, the ministry has approved over 2,000,” Bitok stated.
The review exercise allows parents and learners to seek changes in senior school pathways, school categories, or institutions where they feel placements did not align with learner preferences or performance.
How Placement Reviews Are Being Handled
PS Bitok explained that to speed up the process, the ministry has adopted a decentralised approach:
-
Category One (C1) schools reviews are being handled centrally in Nairobi
-
Reviews involving Cluster Two to Cluster Four (C2–C4) schools are being processed by line officers across counties
This approach, he said, is aimed at ensuring fairness, efficiency, and timely resolution of all applications.
Temporary System Glitches Resolved
The Education PS acknowledged that the placement review system experienced brief digital disruptions earlier in the day but confirmed that the issue had been fully resolved.
“There were slight hiccups over digital details, but the system has since been restored at the Konza Data Centre,” Bitok said.
He assured parents that the platform is now operating smoothly and that no application would be disadvantaged due to the temporary outage.
Parents Urged to Remain Patient
Bitok urged parents and learners to remain calm and utilise the full seven-day review window, which officially began on Tuesday.
“Parents should be patient. The seven days for revision have officially commenced, and all applications will be handled within the given timeframe,” he said.
The Ministry of Education announced the review window on Sunday, December 21, following the release of KJSEA results under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) system.
