A Kenyan court has ordered the freezing of bank accounts belonging to Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, his wife, their children, and 10 other individuals in connection with a separate Sh813 million graft investigation.
The orders were issued pending the hearing and determination of a civil suit filed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), which is probing the alleged irregular acquisition and movement of public funds.
According to the court directive, the freeze applies to multiple bank accounts held by the governor, members of his immediate family, and associates believed to be linked to the suspected corruption scheme. The move is intended to preserve the funds and prevent any possible dissipation before the case is heard.
The EACC has accused the suspects of involvement in a complex web of transactions allegedly designed to conceal the proceeds of corruption, though details of the alleged scheme are yet to be fully ventilated in court.
The matter has been scheduled for mention on February 4, when the court is expected to give further directions on the case.
Governor Wamatangi has previously denied wrongdoing in past corruption allegations, maintaining that he is committed to cooperating with investigative agencies.
The order is an addition to Wamatangi’s latest woes, including the demolition of his business premises near Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
