Kitengela Sub-County Level Four Hospital has come under intense scrutiny following allegations of medical negligence involving a young expectant mother who was left without proper care for several days after her unborn baby reportedly died in the womb.
The woman, identified as Abigael Mutubula, says she visited the facility on Thursday while pregnant, where medical tests confirmed that her baby had died. Despite the devastating diagnosis, she claims hospital staff failed to provide timely and adequate medical intervention as her condition worsened over the next three days.
By Saturday, January 24, Abigael was still in visible distress, reportedly vomiting blood and being physically supported by family members as she struggled with severe pain. She says doctors initially proposed performing a Caesarean section, a procedure she consented to, but later changed their decision and opted to induce labour instead.
According to Abigael, the induction process dragged on for days without meaningful follow-up care, leaving her in prolonged pain and emotional trauma.
“They scanned and told me the baby was not moving. They induced labour and left me like that. I have been suffering since then,” she said.
Her family has also expressed frustration with the hospital’s handling of the case, alleging that their repeated requests for clarity and a transfer to another medical facility were ignored. They claim Abigael was moved between departments without receiving definitive treatment.
The family further alleges that she was at one point locked out of the maternity ward despite her deteriorating condition and left stranded at the hospital reception.
Following media attention at the hospital on Saturday, Abigael was reportedly admitted for a medical procedure to remove the deceased foetus from her womb.
The hospital management has yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations.
