Police in Murang’a County have arrested four suspects believed to be behind a wave of violent crimes that has unsettled residents in recent weeks.
The arrests followed a well-coordinated early-morning operation conducted by officers from Murang’a Police Station in collaboration with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
According to a police statement, the prime suspect had been terrorising residents and was flushed out of his hideout on the outskirts of Kenol Town in Murang’a South Sub-county.
The arrest marked a major breakthrough in ongoing investigations into a string of violent robberies reported across the county.
“This arrest led to the apprehension of three other individuals in Ichagaki area, Maragua, in connection with a series of violent crimes across Murang’a and neighbouring areas,” police said.
Investigators believe the four suspects are members of an organised gang responsible for multiple robbery incidents in which victims were attacked using machetes.
Police noted that the gang targeted residents in different parts of Murang’a County, raising serious concerns over public safety and prompting intensified security operations.
During the operation, officers recovered several items suspected to have been used in the commission of the crimes.
Among the items seized were three motorcycles, one of which is believed to have been used by the suspects during robberies, while the other two are suspected to be stolen.
Police also recovered assorted mobile phones believed to have been stolen from victims, along with a machete, a knife, a Maasai rungu and a crowbar.
The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue, with authorities expected to arraign them in court once inquiries are completed.
Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as efforts to curb violent crime in the county continue.
