Irungu Kang’ata will be away from physical office engagements for about one month after sustaining a leg injury.

In a statement, the Murang’a County Government said the governor injured his heel tendons on Wednesday while attending a meeting in Nairobi.

“Following medical assessment, the governor is currently receiving treatment and has been advised to stay away from physical office engagements for approximately one month to allow for full recovery,” the statement read.

Deputy Governor to Step In

During his absence from physical duties, Deputy Governor Stephen Munania will represent him at official engagements.

Alternatively, the County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Prof. Kiarie, will handle designated responsibilities as appropriate.

Online Engagements to Continue

Despite the injury, the governor is expected to resume official duties virtually. The county government confirmed that Kang’ata will be able to attend online meetings starting Monday, February 23, 2026.

The administration assured residents that county operations will continue uninterrupted during the governor’s recovery period.
