A night guard was killed and two of his colleagues seriously injured during a violent robbery at a godown in Athi River, Machakos County, police have confirmed.
The deceased was identified as Patrick Chepkwony, an employee of Pawn Security Company Limited. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday at the Jeenohl Training Kenya Limited godown.
According to police, Chepkwony and his two colleagues were on duty when they were attacked by a gang of about 15 assailants. The attackers reportedly beat the guards indiscriminately before tying their hands and legs and locking them inside a room.
The gang then made away with several items, including a laptop, a desktop computer, and new CCTV cameras that were yet to be installed at the premises.
The three guards were later discovered by colleagues who were reporting for duty in the morning and were rushed to hospital. Chepkwony, however, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
The two surviving guards were admitted to hospital with serious injuries and remain under medical care, police said.
By the time officers arrived at the scene, the attackers had already fled. Investigations into the incident are ongoing as police hunt for the suspects involved in the deadly robbery.
