Oketch Salah has issued a public statement clarifying his actions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and reaffirming his loyalty to the party, days after ODM formally distanced itself from his activities.
In a message addressed to ODM national chairperson Gladys Wanga, Salah said his actions were aimed solely at popularising and strengthening the party, insisting he had no intention of undermining its leadership.
“I believe deeply in this party, in its history, and in what it stands for. If, in that process, I have hurt you, Chairlady Wanga, I sincerely apologise. That was never my intention,” Salah said.
Addressing concerns over funding, Salah clarified that all activities he has undertaken in relation to ODM were financed using his personal resources.
“The resources I have been using are my own, personal resources. I have not asked ODM for money, and I have not used party funds. This has been my personal contribution to a party I love and respect,” he stated.
Salah also called for the party to remain vibrant and closely connected to its grassroots supporters, saying ODM must continuously adapt to stay relevant.
“I honestly believe that ODM needs to be re-energised and refreshed. A living movement must keep moving, keep inspiring and keep reaching the people, especially at the grassroots,” he added.
He further tied his commitment to ODM to his allegiance to party leader Raila Odinga, popularly known as Baba, saying he remains bound by a personal promise made to him.
“I promised Baba that I would stand with ODM. I made that promise when we were in India. That promise has stayed with me,” Salah said.
Describing his loyalty as rooted in respect for Raila Odinga’s legacy, Salah said the party remains central to his political commitment.
“This party is part of his life’s work, and by extension, it is part of my own duty to continue supporting it, protecting it and strengthening it,” he said. “I remain ODM. I believe in ODM. And I will continue to stand with ODM out of love for the party and out of respect for Baba.”
Salah’s statement came after ODM issued a clarification distancing itself from his engagements.
In a statement released by Gladys Wanga, the party said that any activities or statements by Salah were carried out strictly in his personal capacity and do not represent or bind the Orange Democratic Movement.
