The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) has extended orders barring the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
The Tribunal further directed all parties involved in the dispute to highlight their submissions on March 12, 2026.
NEC Had Resolved to Remove Sifuna
The dispute stems from an ODM National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Mombasa on February 11, 2026, which resolved to remove Sifuna from office, citing concerns over discipline within the party’s senior leadership.
The meeting was chaired by party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga.
Following the resolution, the NEC appointed ODM Deputy Secretary General and Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo to serve as acting Secretary General pending the election of a substantive office holder.
Sifuna Moves to Tribunal
Sifuna moved to the PPDT the day after the NEC meeting, successfully obtaining interim orders halting attempts to remove him from office.
The Tribunal also barred the respondents from publishing the resolution to oust him in the Kenya Gazette — a key legal step that would have formalised and effected his removal.
The matter will now proceed to the highlighting of submissions before the Tribunal determines the next course of action in the high-stakes party leadership dispute.
