The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has ruled out any extension of the ongoing voter registration exercise, calling on eligible citizens to register within the remaining one week.
No Extension, Says IEBC
Speaking during an assessment tour in Meru County, IEBC Commissioner Hassan Noor Hassan made it clear that the timeline will not be extended.
“We are not giving extra time… seven days are there. Kenyans have an opportunity within these seven days to register themselves,” he said.
Registration Centres Widely Available
The commission noted that voter registration kits have been deployed across the country to improve access.
According to Noor, registration is currently taking place at constituency offices and Huduma Centre outlets, ensuring that citizens can easily access the service.
Call to Action for Kenyans
The IEBC is urging citizens, particularly those in Meru County, to take advantage of the remaining days to register and meet the set targets.
“We have brought kits very close to them… an opportunity has been availed for everybody,” Noor added.
Final Push Before Deadline
With the deadline fast approaching, the electoral body is intensifying efforts to mobilise eligible voters, especially first-time registrants.
The commission has emphasized that failure to register within the stipulated period may lock out potential voters until the next registration phase.
Growing Importance of Voter Participation
The exercise is part of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR), aimed at increasing voter participation ahead of future elections.
IEBC continues to stress the importance of civic responsibility, urging all eligible Kenyans to ensure they are registered before the window closes.
