Students at Kahuhia Girls High School in Murang’a County have been sent home after the institution was temporarily closed following emerging security concerns within the school.
According to reports, the decision was reached after an inspection and investigations into an alleged incident involving the siphoning of fuel from the school’s generator.
The closure comes amid growing concerns over student safety and discipline, with school administrators reportedly taking precautionary measures to prevent any potential unrest as investigations continue.
Reports circulating online further claim that a dormitory search conducted by school authorities led to the recovery of several items, including paraffin, matchboxes, and substances suspected to be narcotics. However, authorities have not yet issued an official statement confirming the nature of the recovered items.
School management is said to have ordered the temporary closure to ease tensions within the institution and allow investigators to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations.
Parents and guardians were subsequently notified and instructed to pick up their children as the school remains closed pending further investigations.
The incident comes at a time when schools across the country have heightened security and safety measures following recent cases of unrest and fire incidents reported in several learning institutions.
Education officials are expected to provide further updates once investigations are completed and a decision is made on when learning activities at Kahuhia Girls High School will resume.
