The Kenyan High Commission in Canberra has responded to growing concerns surrounding the death of Sheila Chebii, a Kenyan woman who died barely six weeks after relocating to Australia.
Embassy Urges Calm Amid Ongoing Investigations
In a statement, the High Commission acknowledged concerns raised by Sheila’s family and members of the Kenyan community in Australia regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.
The embassy urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information as investigations continue.
Family Questions Circumstances of Death
According to relatives, Sheila arrived in Australia in early April and secured employment as a housekeeper at a hotel.
On May 17, she reportedly left for work but never returned home. Reports circulating online suggest she may have died at her workplace, although authorities have not yet released a detailed public explanation about the incident.
Her family says Australian authorities have not provided a satisfactory account of what happened.
Calls for Transparency and Justice
Kenyan politician Tim Kipchumba has also questioned why the body was allegedly cleared before investigations were fully completed.
The Kenyan community in Australia has since organized a peaceful march to the Kenyan High Commission in Canberra, demanding transparency and justice for Sheila.
Kabarak University Graduate
Sheila Chebii was a graduate of Kabarak University, where she studied Economics and Finance before moving abroad in search of better opportunities.
Her death has sparked emotional reactions among Kenyans both locally and in the diaspora, with many calling for thorough and transparent investigations.
