Police have rescued a two-year-old child who had allegedly been abducted in Kiuu, Githurai, after days of frantic search efforts by family members, residents, and detectives.
CCTV Captured Child Being Led Away
CCTV footage showed the moment a 15-year-old girl allegedly led the toddler away from home before disappearing from view.
In the footage, the suspect is seen walking towards Kwa Ngethe Road dressed in a red hoodie, black trousers, black shoes, and a black cap while accompanying the child.
The child had last been seen three days earlier, triggering panic and widespread concern among residents of Githurai.
Teen Suspect Claims She Was Promised a Mobile Phone
According to investigators, the teenage suspect later told police she had allegedly been sent by two individuals to abduct the child and had been promised a mobile phone as a reward.
Detectives now suspect the incident could be linked to a wider network allegedly coordinating child abductions from the very house where the toddler was eventually found.
Angry Residents Attempted Mob Justice
Reports that the suspect had been spotted in the area sparked renewed search efforts and tension among residents.
When locals positively identified the teenager, chaos erupted as angry residents attempted to lynch her before police intervened.
With assistance from officers, the suspect reportedly led detectives to the location where the child had allegedly been hidden.
Child Found Safe Near Makeshift House
Police found the toddler near a makeshift house where several other children were reportedly present at the time of the rescue.
Authorities say the suspect directed officers to the exact spot where the child had been kept, leading to the arrest of another suspect at the scene.
The rescue brought relief to the child’s parents after three days of fear and uncertainty over their toddler’s whereabouts.
Investigations Continue
The teenage suspect is currently being held at Githurai Police Station as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the rescued child was taken to hospital for medical examination and further care.
The incident has renewed public concern over rising cases of missing children and suspected child trafficking incidents in parts of the country.
