Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu is facing possible legal action after being served with a demand letter over an alleged unpaid debt of KSh500,000 reportedly borrowed from a businessman.

According to the demand letter dated July 17, 2026, lawyer Ojijo Senaji, acting on behalf of businessman Wilson Owade, claims the senator borrowed the money on May 30, 2026, on compassionate grounds.

Alleged purpose of the loan

The demand letter states that the funds were intended to cater for several expenses, including what it describes as a “master-class showbiz glam.”

The businessman alleges that despite repeated requests for repayment, the money has not been refunded.

According to the letter, efforts to recover the alleged debt were instead met with threats rather than payment.

48-hour ultimatum

The demand letter gives Nyamu 48 hours to settle the alleged debt of KSh500,000.

It warns that legal proceedings will be initiated if the amount is not paid within the stipulated period.

However, the claimant indicates that he remains hopeful the matter can be resolved amicably without the need for court action.

At the time of publication, Senator Karen Nyamu had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the demand letter, and the claims have not been tested or determined by a court.
