A Form Three student who had been reported missing has been found alive in Juja, Kiambu County, bringing relief to her family and prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
The student, identified as Patience Wambui Gitau, is a learner at St. Teresa Gatura Girls High School.
Family Traced Student After Receiving a Tip-Off
According to reports, Patience’s mother, Eunice Wanyoike, received information about her daughter’s possible whereabouts and mobilized relatives to follow up on the lead.
The search led them to a house in Juja reportedly occupied by a 20-year-old man identified as Xavier.
Family members said Xavier initially denied knowing Patience’s whereabouts but allegedly allowed them to search the house.
Student Found Inside Bathroom
During the search, Patience was reportedly discovered hiding inside the bathroom, ending days of uncertainty over her disappearance.
Her recovery drew emotional reactions from family members and attracted residents who had gathered outside the house.
Suspected Drugs Recovered
According to the reports, suspected illegal drugs were also recovered inside the residence.
Police are expected to determine whether the substances are linked to the case and establish the circumstances under which the student came to be at the house.
Suspect Reportedly Fled
As the incident unfolded, Xavier’s mother reportedly arrived at the scene, drawing more residents to the area.
Amid the commotion, Xavier is said to have fled and remains at large. Police have launched a search for him as investigations continue.
Authorities are seeking to establish:
- How long the student had been at the residence.
- Whether she went there voluntarily or was unlawfully confined.
- Whether any criminal offences were committed.
