Haitian President Fritz Alphonse Jean visited the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission camp, where Kenyan police officers are stationed, following the killing of one of their colleagues by gangs.
During his visit, the president expressed his condolences and reaffirmed Haiti’s commitment to the MSS mission. His trip came after the tragic death of Constable Benedict Kairu, who was shot during an ambush by gang members while on a security operation.
On Thursday, the president held discussions with MSS leadership, including Force Commander Godfrey Otunge, as efforts to recover Kairu’s body continued in the troubled region.
President Jean also emphasized Haiti’s collaboration with MSS officers and other partners in the search for a missing Kenyan officer, who disappeared on March 25 in the Pont-Sondé area of the Artibonite Department.
He commended the MSS contingents for their dedication to restoring stability and praised the strong working relationship between the Haitian National Police and the MSS officers, led by Kenya.
