The body of a man who was trapped in a condemned building in Mombasa has been retrieved, days after the structure was brought down by the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) last week on Wednesday.
According to the family, the man had been missing for over ten days, with suspicions that he was trapped when the first floor of the building caved in. His fate was confirmed after a search through the rubble led to the recovery of his body.
The demolition was part of a coordinated operation involving the KDF, which was tasked with manning the inner security cordon, while the National Police Service and County Inspectorate officers enforced restrictions around the outer perimeter. All residents and traders within the designated zone had been ordered to vacate by 2pm on the day of the demolition.
The Nyali Bridge was temporarily closed for an hour ahead of the scheduled demolition, with authorities urging residents to adjust their travel plans accordingly.
In preparation for the operation, the Mombasa County Government mobilized local leaders and Community Health Promoters to carry out door-to-door sensitization campaigns to ensure full compliance and public safety.
