A contractor was killed by a mob after allegedly stabbing to death a woman who had hired him to construct her house in Makhonge village, Kimilili, Bungoma County.

According to police reports, the victim, who owned the property under construction, had traveled from Nairobi to the site on April 22, 2025, to supervise the progress of the building.

A disagreement reportedly arose after she questioned the pace of the construction and the apparent shortage of materials on-site.

The confrontation between the woman and the contractor turned violent and ultimately fatal.

Police said the woman’s lifeless body was found inside the incomplete house, bearing severe injuries — including a deep cut to her face, a stab wound on her left neck, and a severed left wrist.

The contractor, identified as 40-year-old Katila Mumbwa, was later attacked by an angry mob that responded to the commotion coming from the construction site. He died on the spot as a result of the mob assault.

Police officers later arrived at the scene and moved both bodies to the mortuary for autopsy and further investigation.

Authorities have launched a probe into the incident and urged the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
