Two people were shot and killed in an ambush by armed gunmen along the Nginyang-Marigat road in Baringo County on April 21, 2025, police have confirmed.

The victims included a lorry driver and his passenger, who were among a convoy transporting a herd of goats. The vehicles were under police escort when they were attacked by a group of armed assailants lying in wait.

According to police reports, the attackers struck as the lorries were navigating a hilly section near Kipcherere drift, a location at the border of Baringo North and Mukutani sub-counties. The sudden gunfire forced the police escort to take cover.

During the attack, the driver was fatally shot on the spot. Two other men were injured, one of whom died while being rushed to hospital. The second victim is currently recovering from gunshot wounds.

Authorities said the attackers managed to escape with an unspecified number of goats, leaving the rest behind at the scene.

Security agencies have launched investigations and intensified patrols in the area, which has experienced recurring insecurity linked to banditry and livestock theft.
