Narok County — A section of leaders from Narok have voiced strong opposition to the planned construction of an international airport on land allegedly associated with former President Uhuru Kenyatta near the Maasai Mara.
Speaking during a public gathering in Siana Ward, Narok West Constituency, the leaders insisted that the airport should be developed on public land within the county, rather than on private property.
“We are not against development, but we must protect public interest. Such a major project should be situated on land owned by the people, not individuals,” one of the leaders remarked.
The international airport, which is expected to boost tourism and infrastructure in the Maasai Mara region, is set to be launched by President William Ruto during his scheduled development tour of Narok County at the end of the month.
While some see the airport as a strategic step toward enhancing connectivity and economic growth in the region, critics warn that it may set a troubling precedent if built on land perceived to benefit private interests.
