President William Ruto has received a rousing welcome on the first day of his weeklong tour of the Mt. Kenya region, with thousands of residents in Laikipia and Nyeri turning up to embrace his visit.
Hundreds of people, some dressed in traditional Kikuyu regalia while others in civilian attire, lined up along the roads to greet the president as his tour officially kicked off on Tuesday.
This warm reception comes despite months of political rebellion from the region following the removal of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. However, Ruto appeared undeterred as he visited Nyeri County, Gachagua’s home turf, making a bold statement about his continued influence in the region.
While addressing locals in Kieni and Naromoru, the president assured them that he had not forgotten their role in his journey to State House. He promised to return the favour for their support in the last election.
