A man who appeared at the Kibera Law Courts earlier today left many in shock after being caught stealing the prosecutor’s phone.

Joseph Ombogo, who was out on bail for a defilement case, had accompanied his father to the court to confirm the hearing date details of his ongoing case.

During the court session, a prosecutor suddenly realized his phone was missing and raised an alarm. A swift search was conducted, and Ombogo was found to have taken the device from the prosecutor’s desk. CCTV footage later confirmed the moment he picked up the phone before attempting to leave.

“I did not snatch it from him. I found the phone covered in papers and took it. I thought it had no owner, so I took it,” Ombogo explained to officers after being traced and found in possession of the phone.

Following the incident, he was arrested and is currently being held at the Kibera Police Station, awaiting arraignment on a second charge of theft.

Ombogo is expected to appear before the Kibera Law Courts on Wednesday, April 2.
