A family in Irenji Village, Shinyalu Sub-County, Kakamega County is in mourning following the brutal death of Magnus Lumiti Anyika, 54, who was allegedly murdered by his wife, Olivia Shisali, aged 48. The tragic incident unfolded after Magnus reportedly returned home late from visiting his sister.
According to relatives, the couple had a troubled marriage, marked by frequent domestic altercations — many allegedly triggered by Olivia’s excessive drinking. Family members claim that Olivia had a violent streak and had often physically assaulted Magnus when under the influence. At times, Magnus would flee their home to escape the escalating abuse.
“She had been threatening his life for a while now. He used to run away from home just to avoid her beatings,” a family member disclosed.
It is reported that Magnus and Olivia had recently separated, but after persuasion from one of their children, Magnus had returned home in a bid to reunite the family. Tragically, that decision would cost him his life.
On the night of the incident, neighbours said they heard a heated argument and commotion coming from the couple’s home. The situation turned fatal shortly afterward.
Magnus’s brother alerted local leaders, and village elder Ernest Muloki alongside Nyumba Kumi representative Muhanji Alisa arrived at the house, only to find Magnus lying in a pool of blood.
Area assistant chief Harriet Sore, who was informed by concerned neighbours, rushed to the scene and confirmed the worst. Magnus’s body was discovered on the bed, bearing deep head injuries, and the house was splattered with blood — a clear indication of a violent altercation.
“It was a disturbing scene. The body had severe cuts to the head and blood was everywhere. We suspect a blunt or sharp object was used,” said Assistant Chief Sore.
The police have since launched investigations, and Olivia is reportedly in custody as detectives seek to piece together what led to the deadly assault.
