Kenyan digital health platform MYDAWA has secured a new round of funding aimed at accelerating its expansion across East Africa.
While the exact amount remains undisclosed, the investment was led by a group of high-profile investors including IFU, Alta Semper, AAIC Investment, Creadev, and Ohara Pharmaceutical Co.
Founded in 2017, MYDAWA has built a robust digital health ecosystem that delivers a wide range of services in Kenya and Uganda.
The platform integrates online doctor consultations, lab testing, electronic prescriptions, chronic care management, and doorstep delivery of medication—creating a seamless experience for patients.
“The calibre of investors joining this round speaks for itself,” said Neil O’Leary, Founder of MYDAWA.
“It confirms that MYDAWA is not just solving real problems at scale—it’s building a blueprint for the future of healthcare in Africa. We’re honoured to have partners who share our vision and will help us accelerate our mission.”
The newly raised capital will support the scale-up of MYDAWA’s “Bricks-and-Clicks Super Pharmacy” model across new markets, and enhance chronic disease care programmes designed for patients needing continuous, affordable treatment.
The company also plans to integrate AI capabilities to streamline service delivery, improve inventory management, and reduce patient costs.
A significant milestone in its regional growth strategy was the recent acquisition of Rocket Health Uganda, a leading telehealth provider. This move has strengthened MYDAWA’s presence in Uganda and broadened its service capacity.
In 2024 alone, MYDAWA served over 1.8 million patients and enrolled more than 5,000 individuals into its chronic care programmes.
Initiatives like the “Mzima” programme in Kenya and “Bulunji” in Uganda reflect the platform’s commitment to holistic and accessible healthcare. Its PrEP and PEP services—backed by the Gates Foundation—currently support over 3,200 patients in HIV prevention and early treatment.
“Our partnership with MYDAWA has shown us the powerful impact of their model,” said Zach Fond, Partner at Alta Semper. “We’re proud to support this next phase of growth, which solidifies MYDAWA’s leadership in digital healthcare across the continent.”
Strategic collaborations with hospitals, insurance providers, clinics, pharmaceutical firms like Novo Nordisk, and even supermarkets have helped amplify MYDAWA’s reach and influence.
“This investment marks a pivotal step toward realising our vision of a digitally empowered, accessible, and customer-centric healthcare ecosystem for every East African,” said MYDAWA COO, Priscilla Muhiu. “It will allow us to deliver that vision faster and more effectively than ever before.”
