Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Tuesday led a group of opposition leaders in Nairobi in remembering the Gen Z protesters who lost their lives during the 2024 anti-government demonstrations.
The leaders marched solemnly along Parliament Road, laying wreaths and lighting candles in tribute to the young lives lost during the nationwide unrest on June 25 last year.
“Today, we just want to remember these young people. We intend to lay wreaths in their memory,” Kalonzo said while addressing members of the press.
He emphasized the symbolic importance of the day, calling for it to be officially recognized as a national holiday in the future.
“Even if we are denied access to Parliament today, this day must be properly commemorated as a national holiday in the future,” he added.
The former Vice President also commended Kenyans for what he described as a powerful act of collective mourning—allegedly choosing to stay home on June 25 in solidarity with the fallen protesters.
The tribute comes amid renewed calls for justice, accountability, and reforms following the tragic events that marked the 2024 Gen Z-led protests.
