Detectives in Busia County have launched a murder investigation after the body of a missing man was discovered floating in Museverende River in Muyafwa area.
The deceased, identified as Richard Kutto Kipkemboi, 56, was found on June 29, days after he was reported missing. According to police, documents retrieved from his clothing indicated that Kipkemboi hailed from Kamariny area in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Authorities say the body bore visible signs of strangulation around the neck, suggesting foul play.
“Preliminary assessments indicate the victim may have been killed elsewhere before the body was dumped in the river,” a police source confirmed.
The body has since been transferred to the morgue pending a post-mortem examination and further forensic analysis.
Investigators are now working to trace the victim’s last known movements and identify any potential suspects or motives behind the killing. Family members have been notified and are cooperating with the authorities.
