Buuri East, Meru County — Police have arrested two suspects linked to a violent robbery and recovered an AK-47 rifle, believed to be the source of recent insecurity across Buuri East, Tigania West, and surrounding areas.

The dramatic arrest unfolded following reports of gunfire near Mungania Shopping Centre, where detectives discovered the suspects had been attempting to rob a member of the National Police Reserve (NPR).

In a swift and courageous act of self-defense, the NPR officer fired two warning shots into the air, causing the attackers to panic and flee, leaving behind one of their firearms.

Authorities quickly responded, tracing the suspects’ getaway vehicle — a Toyota Vitz, registration number KCE 435Q — which was found abandoned near the scene of the attempted robbery.

A female suspect, identified as Christian Saina Korosian, was apprehended while attempting to escape from the vehicle. Her accomplice, Moses Kayiok Noomeyo, was later found hiding in a nearby house and arrested.

Further investigations linked the suspects to an earlier robbery that occurred at Maritati Centre in Timau, just before the Mungania incident.

According to witnesses, the suspects were dressed in jungle military uniforms and wielded two AK-47 rifles when they stormed into an M-Pesa shop and demanded access to cash at gunpoint.

Detectives are now pursuing other members of the gang, with efforts underway to recover the second firearm used during the Timau robbery.

Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity as security teams work to restore calm and dismantle the armed criminal network operating in the region.
