A middle-aged woman identified as Regina Munyoki, alias Big Mama, was on Thursday arraigned at the Mombasa Law Courts over serious allegations of child pornography and money laundering.
Munyoki appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Gladys Olimo, where she faced multiple charges related to the publication and distribution of explicit images involving minors aged 4, 8, and 14 years.
According to the charge sheet, the accused “knowingly and intentionally” distributed obscene images of the minors via several digital platforms, including WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams, Telegram, and a pornographic website.
The offences are alleged to have been committed on various dates between January 1, 2024, and June 1, 2025, at undisclosed locations within Kenya. The prosecution claims Munyoki used her mobile phone to upload and share the explicit content.
She denied all charges in court.
Principal Prosecution Counsel Breda Ogada strongly opposed her release on bond, citing the gravity of the offences and the vulnerability of the underage victims.
Ogada urged the court to consider the best interests of the children, stressing that they are in need of immediate protection and psychological support. She also expressed concern that the accused could interfere with ongoing investigations.
The court will deliver a ruling on the bond application next week. Until then, Munyoki remains in custody.
