Police in Nairobi have launched an investigation into the mysterious death of a man whose body was found on a sofa in his home in the Peponi area, raising questions about what may have led to his sudden demise.

The deceased, identified as John Koki, was discovered on Monday, June 30, 2025, after neighbors noticed his unusual absence over the weekend.

According to the residents, Koki had not been seen since Friday, which led to concerns. On Monday, a few neighbors decided to check in on him.

“The door was open, and we found him lying lifeless on the sofa,” one of the residents told police.

Koki was found half-naked, but notably, there were no visible injuries on his body. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.

The body has since been moved to a Nairobi mortuary where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Detectives from the Kenya Police Service have launched a probe into the incident.

“The cause of death is yet to be known. We are awaiting the results of the autopsy,” an officer involved in the case told reporters.

This incident comes amid a rise in unexplained deaths in urban residential areas, prompting calls
