Police in Kisumu are pursuing a man who attacked and killed his girlfriend in a brutal panga assault at Kogony village on Saturday night.
The victim, identified as Emily Otieno, 24, was in the company of friends at a house when her boyfriend, identified as Victor, trailed her and launched the fatal attack.
Fatal Attack in the Night
According to witnesses, Victor stormed the house armed with a panga and slashed Emily on the neck, killing her instantly. Terrified friends who were inside the house managed to flee for safety.
Police reports indicate the couple had ongoing domestic differences, which may have led to the attack.
Police Launch Manhunt
Kisumu County police confirmed the assailant escaped immediately after the incident. A manhunt has been launched to arrest him for questioning.
“The deceased suffered a deep cut on the back of her neck. The body has been moved to the mortuary for post-mortem,” police said.
Rising Cases of Gender-Based Violence
The incident adds to the growing list of gender-based violence (GBV) cases in Kenya, with women’s rights groups continuously urging authorities to take stronger preventive and legal action.
