Security operations in the volatile Kerio Valley received a boost after two individuals voluntarily surrendered two AK-47 rifles and 12 rounds of ammunition to the police.
The weapons were handed over in Kabisioi Village, Olot Sub-location, Tot, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Details of the Firearms
According to the police report:
- One AK-47 rifle was fitted with a retractable butt and loaded with 12 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
- The second rifle had a wooden butt with an empty magazine.
“The recovered weapons have been secured and are being held pending further administrative action,” the report stated.

The National Police Service (NPS) commended the cooperation of local residents, noting that voluntary surrender of illegal firearms is a crucial step toward enhancing security.
The NPS further reaffirmed its commitment to restoring lasting peace in Kerio Valley, which has long grappled with banditry and cattle rustling.
