Detectives have arrested a Catholic nun believed to be behind the murder of her colleague, Sister Anselimina Karimi, 65, who served as the administrator of the Meru Children’s Home in Nkabune.
According to police reports, Sister Karimi’s lifeless body was found inside her house on Sunday morning, lying on her back in the dining room and bleeding from the nose, ears, and mouth. Preliminary findings indicate she was struck on the head with a blunt object, resulting in fatal injuries.
Forensic investigators suspect the murder occurred elsewhere, as the victim’s clothes contained blackjack seeds, suggesting she may have been dragged through vegetation before being returned to her residence.
Authorities further revealed that the crime scene appeared tampered with, with signs of cleaning that may have been an attempt to destroy evidence.
Police say the victim was last seen alive at around 10 p.m. on Saturday, and her mobile phone—switched off an hour later—remains missing.
Suspect Identified as Fellow Nun
The main suspect, a fellow Catholic sister, had recently been transferred to the children’s home to take over administrative duties from the late Sister Karimi. Detectives from the DCI Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau are analyzing her phone records to establish her movements and communications during the critical hours.
Investigations reveal that the suspect called colleagues, claiming Sister Karimi had collapsed, and asked them to help rush her to Consolata Mission Hospital Nkubu, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
However, family members raised alarm, saying the deceased had earlier confided that her life was in danger, prompting a full-scale murder investigation.
DCI Takes Over the Case
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that the suspect is in custody and will be arraigned in court on Tuesday as detectives continue to gather forensic and digital evidence.
This shocking incident has sent shockwaves through the Catholic community in Meru, with clergy and faithful calling for justice for the slain nun.
