Drama is brewing after CCTV footage allegedly captured a man said to be a close ally of a Cabinet Secretary (CS) escorting a foreign national through security checkpoints at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) — reportedly helping him bypass airport screening procedures.

The foreigner, identified as Da Mata Dos Santos, was later arrested in the United Kingdom, where authorities discovered concealed narcotics in his luggage.

According to initial reports, the Kenyan man seen in the footage is believed to be Mohamed Muamar, a longtime associate who is said to have previously benefited from political sponsorship by the CS.

Investigations are underway to determine how the suspect gained access to restricted airport areas and whether any airport security personnel may have been compromised.

Officials from the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and anti-narcotics detectives are said to be working with Interpol and UK authorities to trace the possible Kenyan links to the international drug trafficking network.

The incident has triggered calls for an urgent audit of JKIA’s security systems and staff clearance procedures amid rising concerns about drug smuggling through Kenyan airports.

Neither the CS nor KAA has issued an official statement on the matter.
