An attempt by police to arrest a suspect turned tragic in Mwina village, Gamba, after officers fatally shot a 29-year-old man during a violent confrontation on Saturday.
According to preliminary police reports, officers had gone to the area to apprehend a suspect wanted for issuing death threats, when a group of men armed with crude weapons attacked them, sparking chaos.
One Killed, Two Officers Injured in Confrontation
Police said that in the ensuing melee, officers opened fire to defend themselves, resulting in the death of one Maulid Guyo, aged 29.
Two police officers reportedly sustained injuries during the clash and later sought medical attention.
The incident prompted immediate action from police authorities, who have since disarmed and detained the three officers involved to facilitate investigations.

Police confirmed that the body of the deceased has been moved to the Tana River County Referral Hospital mortuary pending post-mortem examination and further investigation.
