Eldoret — A total of 270,000 candidates who sat the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations have attained grade C+ and above, qualifying them for direct entry to university, President William Ruto has announced.
According to the President, the figure represents 72 per cent of the total 993,000 candidates who sat the national examination in 2025.
Ruto disclosed the statistics after receiving a briefing from Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba ahead of the official release of the KCSE results on Friday.
1,932 Candidates Score Grade A
In the performance breakdown, 1,932 candidates attained grade A, making them the top performers nationally.
“At Eldoret State Lodge, Uasin Gishu County, I was briefed on the release of the 2025 KCSE Examinations to be released today,” President Ruto said in a statement shared on X.
“We are impressed that out of the 993,000 candidates — 50 per cent of whom were girls — 270,000 attained C+ and above, securing a direct entry to university.”
Results to Be Released Today
Following the presidential briefing, the Ministry of Education is expected to officially release the 2025 KCSE results later today, with CS Ogamba presiding over the announcement.
Candidates will then be able to access their results through official Ministry and Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) platforms.
About the 2025 KCSE Exams
The 2025 KCSE examinations were conducted between October 21 and November 21, 2025. Oral and practical assessments were administered prior to the written theory papers, in line with examination regulations.
Decline in Exam Malpractice Cases
The Ministry of Education also reported a decline in examination irregularities, with 418 candidates involved in exam malpractices in 2025, compared to 614 cases recorded in 2024.
Education officials have previously attributed the reduction to enhanced supervision, tighter security measures, and the use of technology in monitoring examination centres.
University Admissions Next
Candidates who attained C+ and above will now await placement through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), which is expected to open its portal in the coming weeks.
