Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga has confirmed that he has convened a family meeting scheduled for February 1, 2026, aimed at resolving internal differences within the Odinga family over the direction of the party.
Speaking to journalists at his Riat home in Kisumu on Saturday, Oburu said divergent opinions among younger family members were natural in politics and should not be a cause for alarm.
He noted, however, that as the senior-most figure in the family, he bears the responsibility of offering guidance and ensuring unity.
“The internal family conversations are issues that are important to resolve, and I am equal to the task. That is why I have called a meeting on February 1, where we are going to deal with those issues,” Oburu said.
Oburu added that youthful voices should be accommodated and nurtured, stressing that disagreement does not amount to disloyalty.
“Young people sometimes express divergent views. I will talk to them. They have a lot of time ahead of them; some of us are just holding on for them. They are my children, and I cannot utter anything against them. If they need advice, I am always available,” he stated.
Addressing broader tensions within ODM—particularly surrounding talks between ODM and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA)—Oburu cautioned against what he described as destructive public criticism, saying it undermines party discipline.
He emphasized that while debate is a cornerstone of democracy, party members must respect collective decisions once they are made.
“You are free to debate and express views internally, but after a decision is reached, discipline demands that we all respect it,” he said.
