Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has clarified that he will not walk the entire 486 kilometres from Nairobi to Mombasa as earlier planned, citing safety concerns and restrictions along parts of the route.
Omondi began the ambitious charity trek on Tuesday, January 10, departing from Nairobi’s Nyayo Stadium with the goal of reaching Mombasa by Valentine’s Day. The initiative is aimed at raising funds for his Team Sisi kwa Sisi project.
On the first day, he covered 63 kilometres, making it to Machakos. However, the journey was not without challenges, as he sustained injuries to his leg and hip that required medical attention.
Despite initially declaring he would complete the full stretch on foot, Omondi has now revealed that some sections of the road cannot be accessed by pedestrians due to wildlife risks and security regulations.
“There are places that I won’t walk. Like, for instance, Man Eaters, where there is wildlife,” he explained.
He added that the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) would not permit him to walk through certain areas considered dangerous.
“The Kenya Wildlife Service will not allow me to pass through certain stretches on foot. There are 150 kilometres of places that I cannot walk. In total, I will walk around 370 kilometres. I will do that in four days,” Omondi said.
With the adjustment, the entertainer now plans to walk approximately 370 kilometres of the journey, while bypassing restricted and high-risk zones.
Omondi’s charity walk continues to draw attention online, with supporters closely following his progress and contributing to the fundraising effort.
