Investigations into the suspected mass grave in Kericho East Sub-County have taken a new turn after autopsies on eight more bodies revealed varied and complex causes of death.
Autopsy Findings Raise More Questions
According to police, postmortem examinations conducted on March 27, 2026, showed that all eight victims were male, with causes of death differing significantly.
The autopsies were carried out by a team of government pathologists led by Dr. Richard Njoroge, alongside Dr. Donar Nyahunga and Dr. Naomi Ariaga.
Mixed Causes of Death
Findings indicate that two of the bodies had undetermined causes of death, while others were linked to a range of conditions and injuries, including:
- Pneumonia
- Septicemia
- Advanced heart disease
- Pulmonary thromboembolism
- Head injuries
- A combination of choking and head trauma
The variation in causes has complicated efforts to establish a clear pattern or single explanation behind the deaths.
DCI Intensifies Investigations
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are continuing with investigations to determine the circumstances under which the victims died.
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of foul play in some of the cases, as they work to piece together the sequence of events surrounding the discovery.
The probe remains ongoing, with officials expected to conduct further forensic analysis and gather additional evidence to unravel the mystery behind the Kericho mass grave.
