The High Court of Kenya sitting in Eldoret has sentenced a man to 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of former marathon athlete Samson Kandie.
In a ruling delivered by Justice Reuben Nyakundi, the court convicted Vincent Ngososei, who had initially been charged with murder alongside Jamleck Morogit and the deceased athlete’s wife, Rose Chepkemboi Rotich.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Ngososei admitted to the lesser charge of manslaughter after entering into a plea agreement with the State.
Under the plea bargain, Ngososei told the court that he had been instructed by one of his co-accused, Rotich, to discipline Kandie over allegations of infidelity.
Prosecutors led by Sidi Kirenge presented evidence placing Ngososei at Kandie’s home between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on October 3, 2024. The athlete was later found severely assaulted and succumbed to the injuries.
In a related development, Morogit also entered into a separate plea bargain with the State. He was convicted of conspiracy to murder and sentenced to six years in prison.
Under the agreements, both Ngososei and Morogit are expected to testify against Rotich as the murder trial against her continues.
